Clare Lewis.
Founder & Director
Clare founded C L Mortgages in 2017 after 14 years in financial services. She qualified as a mortgage adviser in 2008, having spent her formative career specialising in broker support and mortgage underwriting, then advised for nine years in other small firms before founding the company.
Passionate about outstanding customer experiences, Clare believes every client deserves to feel heard, supported and valued. That customer-centric approach, built on fairness, integrity and genuine care, runs through everything the team does.
Today she leads with the same values that inspired her to start the company: putting people first, finding solutions, and making sure every interaction reflects the respect and support that both customers and her team deserve.

The first 15-min chat is always free. After that, fees depend on the complexity of your case. We're always upfront before any work starts. No surprises, no hidden charges. We'll cover this on the first call.
It means we're not tied to a single lender. We have access to over 90 providers, including exclusive deals through our network, Quilter Financial Planning. Not a panel of three or four lenders, not just the high street. If a building society in Yorkshire has the right deal for you, we can place it there.
Often, yes. As whole-of-market advisers we have a wealth of knowledge, including how to navigate lenders' criteria, meaning we can often get mortgages agreed, including with your own bank, where you couldn't directly. We have a track record of doing exactly this.
From first call to keys in hand: typically 6-12 weeks for a purchase, 4-8 weeks for a remortgage. Purchase chains can vary and impact timescales. We'll give you a realistic timeline early on and keep you updated at every stage.
Both, and we take it very seriously. We don't just want to get you the home, we want to make sure you can keep it. Your income is generally your single biggest asset, and without it you're at risk of losing your home, so we'll always make sure your income protection and life cover fit within your overall budget from the start.
If you're ever unhappy with anything we do, please tell us first. We'd much rather fix it than have you stew on it. If we can't resolve it directly, you can complain to Quilter Financial Planning or escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The full complaints process is on /complaints.
